Oud Festival - Farid al-Atrash’s Rite of Spring:
A Dance Work by Orly Portal

Choreographer Orly Portal’s dance work was born from Farid al-Atrash’s classic melody, “The Eternal Lover”, by the singer, composer and oud player who became an unforgettable icon. This is a spring ritual dance in boundless spaces of time and place, in which women dance on the altar of love in an alchemy of melody and rhythm, shattering the myth of falling in love and surrendering to the female body. Through the language of the body, the work depicts blooming and withering, and an ending that is a beginning. The sorrow of love gives way to tarab – a feeling of elevation and ecstasy.
