Sazland is an innovative ensemble on the local world music scene, built entirely around the leading string instrument of Turkish folk music, the saz: an instrument of storytellers, poets, ordinary people and accomplished musicians alike.
Sazland, led by saz player and Turkish music researcher Gur Wollner and musically produced by Elad Cohen Bonen (Ehud Banai, Hasmachot), will perform with five saz players – Ido Wolfson, Adam Solozhon, Moriah Menahem, Adi Shorani and Haim Or Hoffman. All play different types of saz, combined with computer work, live drums and contemporary sound, creating a rich and distinctive musical texture. Sazland’s first project is a tribute to Turkish-born guitarist-singer-composer Berry Sakharof, offering a “saz” interpretation of his songs with influences from Turkish folk music.
