      Metuko’s House

      הבית של מתוקו

Winner of first prize and honorable mention for outstanding actor at the 2009 Acco Festival

A work of surrealistic, precise, and heart-rending theater, centered around the story of Metuko Maleso, an ordinary fellow who wants to keep his promise to his late mother and marry his beautiful fiancé. To his consternation, he discovers that his house has vanished—with the bride to be inside.

"... a charming combination of dance and ethnic music and very physical clownish acting. The five fine actors move along the fine line between comedy and tragedy, constructing a bitter-sweet play..." (Shay Bar-Yaakov, Yediot Aharonot)

"A fascinating and lively world, presenting the stories and distress of protagonists from the Ethiopian community who encounter conflict between tradition and a callous reality, with rich use of music, song, dance and acting" (from the Acco Festival judges' citation)

Written and directed by Moshe Malka
