Singer-songwriter-paytanit Maureen Nehedar celebrates the tenth anniversary of her exemplary album “Asleep in the Bosom of Childhood,” which reflects her longings for the land of her birth, Iran, and its Jewish tradition. In this unique performance at Confederation House she will perform all of the songs from that album, including “You Shall Have Mercy,” “Asleep in the Bosom of Childhood,” “I Shall Praise You,” “Beautiful Heights,” “Rejoice Israel,” “Bow Before God,” and “Prayer for Peace,” which have since become Israeli classics.
Nehedar will also sing Persian folk songs from her album “Gali li le’an” which is due to be released this year. She will be accompanied by an ensemble that reconstructs the original and pioneering sound of “Asleep in the Bosom of Childhood,” which for the first time included ancient Persian instruments along with a fusion of American folk and ethno-jazz.
Nehedar is a pioneer of the world music scene in Israel and stands out internationally in the field of Jewish musical renewal. She has received awards and recognition for her artistic activity, including the Uri Orbach Prize for Jewish Culture in the Field of Music in 2023. Nehedar has released four albums that enjoy great success and critical acclaim.
