Hullegeb Theater

The Ethiopian Israeli theater ensemble of Confederation House

Artistic director: Moshe Malka

Hullegeb (Amharic for "multifaceted"), the Ethiopian Israeli Theater ensemble, was established in 2006 at the initiative of Confederation House and the Ministry of Culture. The aim of the theater is to give artistic expression to actors and theatrical artists of Ethiopian heritage living in Israel. Its goal is to produce quality theater while consolidating a special theatrical idiom characteristic of Ethiopian culture, fostering Ethiopian actors in Israel and helping to cope with the crises that accompany immigrants' adaptation to life in a new land.

Along with a production of Strindberg's Miss Julia, the ensemble's repertoire includes the play Teret Teret, a modern theater piece based upon Ethiopian folktales, and the monodrama On Her Own, which deals with the life of a woman from Ethiopia living in Israel.
