Vocal artist Neta Elkayam offers a special production for the Oud Festival, drawing inspiration and celebrating the musical heritage of Jewish female vocalists from Algeria: Lin Monti, Alice Fitussi, Renat Laorniez and Simone Tamer.
Elkayam is the regular vocalist in Israel with legendary Algerian pianist Maurice el-Medyoni, one of the great Algerian musicians who now resides in Israel. Al-Medyoni was a regular accompanist of vocalists Lin Monti and Renat Laorniez. Thanks to him and through her work with him, Elkayam became familiar with the eclectic musical world of these female artists. They sang in the Algerian Arabic dialect, sometimes combining French, and absorbed numerous influences including Andalusian music, French chanson, Spanish flamenco among others.
Selected works from their rich repertoire will be performed in special arrangements by Elkayam and her creative partner, Amit Hai Cohen.
