Author and poet Iris Eliyah Cohen and vocalist and paytanit Rakefet Amsalem combine their spiritual and cultural worlds. They connect between East and West, poetry, melody and world music, sacred and secular, contemporary fiction and mothers’ tales in an Israeli performance filled with humor and joy, prayer and longing. Amsalem is regarded as a pioneer of feminine piyyut in Israel. Her work combines ancient and modern music, piyyutim and poems inspired by a variety of literary sources: Hebrew, Ladino, Yiddish and Moroccan. Eliyah Cohen is an author, poet and artist who has published seven books of prose and poetry, including the bestsellers Maktub, Galbi, and Sheharhoret and a children’s book Savta Turbo.
