Amitai Aricha is a musician who studies and performs melodies from the Jewish Yemenite heritage. Dance of the Gazelles is the result of many years of discovery and deciphering the singing of the ancient diwan of the Jews of Yemen. Aricha and his ensemble present melodies and texts from this sacred corpus, performed here for the first time as art music. This performance blends a variety of influences—West African rhythms, western harmonic minimalism and an abundance of eastern melody, allowing for contemporary musical and spiritual evolution of the ancient songs, while maintaining the traditional idiom in which they were created.
