The Quartetoukan grew out of an encounter between vocalist Miriam Toukan and guitarist and musician Idan Toledano, when they were students at the University of Haifa. Since then, the quartet has become a musical intersection between cultures and peoples through songs and melodies. The group includes klezmer cellist Dr. Racheli Galay and percussionist Noa Vax. The quartet juxtaposes East and West and connects Bialik and Fairuz, Lea Goldberg and flamenco and klezmer and Arab folk music. The performance is a journey in a musical world that mirrors Israel’s multi-cultural contemporary society, inviting cultural richness and a basis for exchange of ideas, understanding and human harmony.
